Included in this list are names of the following:
1. Individuals testifying in defense of those accused witches who lived in Salem Village.
2. Everyone listed on Charles Upham's map (see pp. 394-95), who signed a petition in favor of an accused witch living in Salem Village. (There were two petitions circulated in favor of John and Elizabeth Procter. One petition was signed by thirty-two residents of Ipswich, who described themselves as the Procters' former "neighbors." These signatures, all unfamiliar to readers of this book, are not included in the following list.)
3. Everyone giving skeptical testimony designed to cast doubt on the credibility of the afflicted girls.
4. Any "defender" not accounted for in the above categories but whose name might be familiar to readers of this book.
